within a few hours. Brussels is a place of artistic
beauty, gorgeous green parks, gourmet restaurants,
fantastic shopping, superb museums, gorgeous architecture,
scrumptious chocolates, fantastic seafood, and a lively
night club and music scene and old – precisely
brewed specialty Belgian Beers.
Brussels is considered the heartbeat
and center of Europe – it is a very short distance
from a number of European countries which is very
convenient. Brussels is also a major venue for The
European Union, the European Parliment and the Commission
are based there which gives a very cosmopolitan air
to the city, particularly during weekdays.
2005
is a special anniversary for Belgium
as it is 175 years since Belgium the state was founded.
Belgium is marking this anniversary and of course
Brussels will be in the centre of the celebrations.
The cuisine in Brussels is top notch – the best
in Europe and I’ve been to several cities and
have not eaten better. And the array of beers is mind-boggling
– and there are plenty of café’s
and Brew pubs to drink them in.
When compared to other European cities, Brussels
is not exactly cheap, but it is well worth
the trip. Great top-quality cuisine, the oldest and
highest quality beers in the world and over 400 to
choose from (not to mention numerous pubs to drink
these in), beautiful parks, a lively night scene,
and the array of astounding Art Nouveau and Gothic
architecture – this is Brussels and if it catches
your imagination – go for it, there’s
no time like the present.
By
the way the Belgium currency is the
Euro. There are loads of Banks with ATMs in Brussels
but I found that some did not work with my cards;
however, I recommend the Citibank located near Gare
de Central train station – I never had a problem
here, though depending on your bank(s) – the
others may work fine for you. Brussels is a slightly
expensive city given its reputation for outstanding
chocolate, waffles, world-renown beer, and top quality
cuisine, but it is worth it.
